FAQ Index:
Q. Why are you writing this site in English, when your native language is Italian? A. Because I feel confident that by writing in English I could be understood by many more people... even if my English is far from perfect. Q. Where is your blog? A. My blog is here. It displays my last ten entries. Previous entries are archived and can be accessed through a link at the top of that page. Q. Can I add comments? A. Your comments are welcome. You can add a comment to any of my entries by clicking the "Read/Add comments" link below the entry itself. The form to add your entry is displayed at the bottom of the entry and comment page. Consider that at present time you have no option to preview the resulting comment. Click "Submit" and your comment will be placed on-line. Should you want to remove or modify it, you have to write me. Q. Which language should I use to write comments? A. The one you prefer. I use english, but you don't have to be intimidated by this. Q. Is my email required to add a comment? A. No it isn't. The username/nick isn't required either. Q. If I enter my email I'll be flooded by spam? A. I think it is quite unlikely, if not for the fact that my website is quite well hidden :-). Apart from this I took some precautions in handling email address. If you take a look at the source HTML you'll notice that there is no recognizable mail address URL or text. Mail addresses are "computed" by a fragment of Javascript code when the page is displayed. I consider that spammers' scanners are not so advanced to process the page rendering and grab the address from what is displayed. In order to do that the scanner should include a Javascript interpreter and quite a good understanding of the HTML object model. Anyway this is not awarranty. Even if unlikely it could happen. Do what you prefer. Q. What are you going to do with my email? A. Voodoo rites... :-D Your email address is stored in an hidden directory on my website along with your comment. Anyone who is going to read my blog and sees your email address can click over it. Sometimes I perform a backup of the whole site. I won't spread and/or distribute your email by any other means. I won't sell or trade your information. Again the choice is your, if you don't feel confident, don't enter your email. Q. Are comments moderated/censored in any way? A. Yes and no. When you enter your comment it will appear immediately on line, as is, uncensored. Usually I read all the comments entered, should I find something I consider illegal or daunting, I'll go on by temporarily removing it, asking you (if I have your email) for a fix and if we agree on a proper form, then I'll republish it on the site. Q. What's that creepy cookie? A. A plan to rule the world :-D. It is a way to track the user session. Since HTTP has no session concept, programmers need to implement it other ways. There are basically two options: cookie and URL rewriting. I choose the first one because it is the simplest. I'm sure that with enough effort and by carefully reading PHP documentation it is possible to build a system that transparently supports sessions with both methods. Right now, by refusing the cookie you don't allow my blog system to recognize you the next time you visit. This means that the blog system won't pre-fill user name and email address if you provided them. |
